Community Yard Sale Oct 8 @ 8AM-1PM- New Date

We will be hosting a Community Yard Sale October 8th, 2022 from 8AM-1PM at the theatre at 17303 W Washington St, Hagerstown MD. There will be individual sellers and commercial vendors and Potomac Playmakers will also be selling items from our COSTUME shop. Find something for Halloween, vintage wear, or maybe you’re putting on a show yourself!

Auditions for “Puffs” Sept 12-13 @ 7PM

Are you feeling magical? Are you destined to save the world?
The Potomac Playmakers are proud to announce auditions for “Puffs: or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic” by Matt Cox. Directed by Anna Lynch, auditions will be held on Monday September 12th and Tuesday September 13th from 7-9pm at the Potomac Playmaker Performing Arts Center, 17303 West Washington Street, Hagerstown.
For auditions everyone 18 years and older is welcome to audition and encouraged to bring a head shot and resume, but these items are not required. Auditions will consist of some Improv work, cold readings from the script and character impressions. Knowledge of that really popular 7 book series is preferred, but not required. Being able to do an English accent is a plus as well. All roles are open and can be any race, body type or gender with the exception of the Narrator and Wayne which will need to be the gender listed.
Performance dates are November 11-13 and 18-20, 2022.
Wayne Hopkins (Male); a nerdy wizard boy from New Mexico.
Oliver Rivers; a mathematician wizard from New Jersey.
Megan Jones; daughter of the infamous Xavia Jones who thinks she should be in the Snakes house.
Narrator (Male); The one with all the heavy books.
Cedric; the lead Puff at the magic school.
Mr. Voldy; an evil and dark lord who wants to take over the school and kill Harry.
Mr. Potter; a famous student in the Brave house who kills magical beasts and constantly steals opportunities from the Puffs.
Susie Bones; a Puff who lives in fear of death, due to the fact that her entire family died.
J Finch Fletchley; a flamboyant and happy Puff.
Sally Perks; goes to school here
Ernie Mac; a very confident and self-obsessed Puff.
Hannah; a shy Puff who gets made fun of by the other houses.
Leanne; a Puff who grew up as an only child and wants to be friends with everybody.
SUMMARY
The New York Times proclaims Puffs “A fast-paced romp through the ‘Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.’ For Potterphiliacs who grew up alongside Potter and are eager to revisit that world, Puffs exudes a jovial, winking fondness for all things Harry!”
This clever and inventive play “never goes more than a minute without a laugh” (Nerdist) giving you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders with a thing for badgers “who are so lovable and relatable, you’ll leave the theater wishing they were in the stories all along” (Hollywood Life). Their “hilariously heartfelt!” (Metro) and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.
Puffs is not authorized, sanctioned, licensed or endorsed by J.K Rowling, Warner Bros. or any person or company associated with the Harry Potter books, films or play.

Happiness is great musical theatre! With charm, wit, and heart, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown explores life through the eyes of Charlie Brown and his friends in the Peanuts gang. This revue of songs and vignettes, based on the beloved Charles Schulz comic strip, is the ideal family show.

Note from the Playwright:     I had been interested in and drawn to the theatre arts since I was a preteen. Although, in my earlier years, I primarily focused on traditional acting and improvisational theatre. As my interests in theatre evolved, I started playwriting because I saw it as the most succinct and lively way to present my voice to the world, to add to the conversation in a language I had been cultivating for years – theatre.

I view my pieces as experimental conversation starters; I often enjoy tackling subject matter from a distorted lens to emphasize certain aspects of it. This manifests itself in absurdism, magical realism, Dadaism, existentialism, or purposeful oddness. I am particularly interested in issues of morality, family tragedy, the intangible powers of intense love or intense hatred, and more.

I have a deeply engrained love for theatre in its most traditional sense but my work blends that approach with a more contemporary and innovative stylization. In my works, this appears as dream sequences, absurdist depictions of the afterlife, abnormal memories, metatheatrical moments, extraordinary metamorphoses, and more.

 

New theatre seats donated by Warehouse Cinemas

The Herald Mail published an article today, July 17, highlighting the donation of our new theatre seats by Warehouse Cinemas. We are extremely grateful to them for making our auditorium comfortable and attractive to our patrons. See the article below.

We also want to thank the Hagerstown Rotary Club Foundation for the $2,000 grant to refinish the floors so the seats could be installed.

 

Rocky Horror PRIDE Show June 25 @ 11pm SOLD OUT

THIS SHOW IS SOLD OUT!

Rocky Horror Act, in conjunction with the Potomac Playmakers, will be hosting the Rocky Horror Pride Show on Saturday, June 25th! Frank ‘N’ Furter and his motley crew will be doing the time warp once again in this shadow cast performance alongside the cult classic film, Rocky Horror Picture Show. Complete with sass from the audience, cascading toilet paper, and an array of other audience participation props, this kitschy sci fi gothic is more fun than ever. Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

'Buy a Seat' Plaque Campaign

With the Potomac Playmakers "Buy a Seat"  campaign, you can name a perpetual seat in the Lee Stine Auditorium for only $125. A commemorative 1.5" x 3" brass plate will be placed on the back of one of the seats in the theatre. We cannot ensure the specific placement of each plaque location, but early donors will be placed in the frontmost rows. You are not purchasing the seat for your use during the season, and naming rights do not guarantee that you can sit in that seat when you come to a Playmakers' production. In addition to the permanent plaque you receive a 1-year membership in the Potomac Playmakers, which enables you to vote at the Annual Meeting in our election to the Board.
